Pulsed Polychromatic Light Therapy

What is PPL?

PPL stands for Pulsed Polychromatic Light Therapy, a non-invasive cosmetic treatment
that uses controlled pulses of broad-spectrum light to target various skin concerns. Similar to IPL (Intense Pulsed Light), PPL can help improve skin tone, reduce pigmentation, and treat specific skin conditions without damaging the surrounding tissue. It’s a safe and effective option for clients looking to rejuvenate their skin with minimal downtime.
What Can Be Treated with PPL?
PPL therapy is highly versatile and can be used to treat a range of skin concerns, including:
  • Sun damage and pigmentation
  • Age spots and freckles
  • Redness, rosacea, and broken capillaries
  • Acne and acne scarring
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Fine lines and mild wrinkles
  • Skin texture concerns
It is suitable for use on the face, neck, décolletage, and hands, as well as other parts of the body depending on your individual needs.
How Often Should I Have Treatment?
For optimal results, we usually recommend a course of 4–6 treatments, spaced about 3 to 4 weeks apart. This allows your skin to heal and respond fully between sessions.

Some skin conditions may require more or fewer treatments depending on severity and individual response. Your practitioner will provide a personalised treatment plan during your consultation.
Does it Hurt?
Most clients describe the sensation as a quick snap or flick, similar to a rubber band being lightly pinged against the skin. Some areas may feel more sensitive than others, but the discomfort is generally mild and temporary.

Topical cooling or numbing gels may be used if needed to make the experience more comfortable.
What Are the Side Effects of a PPL Treatment?
Side effects are generally mild and short-lived. You may experience:

  • Redness or mild swelling in the treated area (usually subsides within a few hours)
  • Warmth or tightness in the skin
  • Temporary darkening of pigmentation (which flakes off naturally)
  • Dryness or flaking

Serious side effects are rare when treatments are performed by trained professionals. Always follow aftercare instructions to minimise any risk.
What Should I Do or Not Do After a PPL Treatment?
Do:
  • Apply a soothing moisturiser and SPF daily
  • Stay hydrated
  • Use gentle, non-irritating skincare products

Avoid:
  • Direct sun exposure for at least 1–2 weeks
  • Hot showers, saunas, or heavy exercise for 24–48 hours
  • Exfoliating or using active skincare (like retinol or acids) for a few days
  • Picking or scratching the treated area
  • Avoid using Topical Isotretinoin (acne creams) for at least 1 week before and 1 week after.
  • Avoid using active skin care such as Retinol or Vit A creams for a 2 days aftertreatment.

Your skin may be more sensitive after treatment, so taking proper care is key to achieving the best results.

How Long Will the Treatment Take?
Each session typically takes 30 to 60minutes, depending on the area being treated and the specific concerns addressed. For smaller areas, treatments may be even quicker.

You can usually return to your normal activities straight after treatment, making PPL a convenient option for those with a busy lifestyle.
